Edmonton, Alberta, January 31, 2024 — Willowglen Systems and Hitachi Rail partner on the Ontario Line RSSOM project
Willowglen Systems announced on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, it has signed on to provide the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) solution for Connect 6ix, the project company delivering the Rolling Stock, Systems, Operations and Maintenance (RSSOM) contract for the Ontario Line subway in Toronto.
Willowglen will provide Hitachi Rail, trusted with building the signal system and operating and maintaining the subway for a 30-year term as part of the Connect 6ix consortium, with a SCADA solution fully integrated with the rest of the railway system. This will bring leading safety technology to the subway project, delivering the ability for operators to monitor the entire system efficiently from its operations, maintenance and storage facility in Toronto’s Thorncliffe Park neighbourhood.
PROJECT
The Ontario Line subway will span 15.6 kilometres, enhancing connectivity within Toronto and beyond. The line’s scope encompasses 15 stations, from Exhibition Place through the heart of downtown, ultimately connecting to the Eglinton Crosstown LRT (Line 5) at Don Mills Road.
Commuters will benefit from substantial time savings, with end-to-end travel taking less than 30 minutes, significantly reducing the current 70-minute transit journey. Furthermore, connections to over 40 other travel options, including TTC’s Line 1 and Line 2, three GO Transit rail lines, and the Eglinton Crosstown LRT, will help alleviate crowding across the existing transit network.
