Calgary, Alberta, November 10, 2023 — Willowglen Systems, Suncor and NTWIST Win 2023 Best in Sector ASTech Award
Willowglen Systems, NTWIST, and Suncor won the ASTech 2023 Award for Best in Sector: Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning (ML). Their project, “SentientQ: Empowering Pipeline Optimization through AI-Driven Decision Support,” was recognized for advancing the technical landscape in Alberta and contributing to positive environmental change.
PROJECT
Willowglen Systems, NTWIST, and Suncor collaborated to create a machine-learning solution to deliver the necessary improvements to create previously unattainable outcomes without the addition of capital equipment. Willowglen Systems SCADA experts used multiple machine learning models with Suncor’s pipeline data to calculate optimized values throughout several different operating conditions while also accounting for numerous operations variables. The solution reduced the electricity costs of an operational pipeline by 28.4%. In addition to the corresponding environmental benefits, this project created a cost savings of over one million dollars a year from the reduction in electricity.
Machine learning creates significant improvements to deliver on previously unattainable outcomes by providing real-time analysis for SCADA platforms. In mission-critical industrial operation technology space, such as pipeline operations, as demonstrated with this project, small improvements in how companies measure, monitor, and control a system can drastically improve operating costs, environmental stewardship, capital asset utilization, safety, and reliability. Willowglen’s learning solution can improve any manufacturing or industrial process, from pulp mills to water treatment plants.
GLOBAL EXPERIENCE
In addition to experience with pipeline systems, WIllowglen Systems has a global footprint spanning 32 metro rail lines, covering over 700 km of track and 460 stations worldwide, ensuring the safety of over 3.5 billion metro-rail passengers annually.
